We'll see if Pearce can get in. From what I can see, locally and even in the "mainstream media," one environmental agenda that has "bipartisan support" is preservation and conservation of land, especially if game animals are involved. "Save an Elk, Shoot a Developer," resonates with a lot of guys and gals in camo. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/02/25/climate/hunters-and-veterans-are-fighting-trumps-pick-to-oversee-public-lands.html (He will probably try the ploy that court nominees have used, "Oh I won't really do those things I said 1,2,5,10 years ago," to get votes, and then go and do them or try to do them.)

And yeah, while I do sometimes drive along pounding the wheel hollering, "Why aren't there solar farms here," I try to reserve that for places with big honking high voltage lines overhead already. Usually thinking, "so we can decarbonize faster and more completely," and never "so we can run AI on cat videos."

Thanks for recognizing that the land under panels at solar farms is often not a complete wasteland. Lots of folks working hard to "minimize disruption," though it'll never be zero. At Gemini, instead of blading, they practiced the unfortunately named, "drive and crush" while working. A lot of observations have shown it takes 4-5 years for the soil and plant and animal communities to find a new equilibrium, but that can be fairly productive and biodiverse. I've heard some of the researchers and staff at Gemini discuss the tortoise reintroduction, but nothing has been published yet. While the solar and wind developers are and have been working hard to work better with land and wildlife and regs, I constantly hear the geothermal and nuke proponents say how they need regulatory rollbacks before they even get started.

Here’s a story idea: CBP is fast-tracking a 200 mile segment of border wall that would eviscerate Big Bend National Park, a wild place that Congress protected ā€œin perpetuityā€ in 1935.
