Thank you for this really great conversation. And thank you Jonathan for your incredible reporting. I am a French citizen who lives in Durango and I have been out of the US since early September. I am speechless about what is happening in the US and it does not make me want to come back. You guys are (a big part of) the resistance and the only hope the US has... I hope you can limit the damages. Flo

The Trump administration has hinted at getting rid of the buffer zone altogether, but so far has not made any specific moves to do so. In the meantime, New Mexico's congressional delegation has introduced a bill to make the buffer zone permanent and thus invulnerable to Trump's orders.
