I love maps! Thank you for sharing those. I am very interested in exploring the fire risk map.

I wonder if anyone has plotted all the places someone can purchase a gun in the United States? I heard on NPR's Marketplace, yesterday, that there are more gun stores in the US than there are Starbuck's Coffee shops on the planet. What we need is a map plotting all those locations, plus gun makers, plus ammo makers so we can make sure there is a 1:1 ratio with those locations and places that are burnt to the ground... A campaign to RETURN FIRE!

Thanks, as always, Jonathan for your work and insights. I agree that the U.S., founded on violence and genocide, then built with slave labor, may never be able to extract itself from the mentality of greed and power. However, it is currently trying, hence all the hateful resistance to possibly becoming more fair, egalitarian and caring from those who do not seem to have any of these qualities.

It would appear, surprise, surprise, that the young man who committed this violence was himself a traumatized person.

Instead of the usual anti Republican and NRA rant, consider the effects of the HIPA laws and how they prevent vital mental health issues from being used to stop the sales of guns to unbalanced people.

It is a simple fact , not a "rant" that most Republicans, at least their senators and representatives, are against any sort of rational gun control. Like the bizarre idea of a ban on the sale of assault weapons. To ANYONE! I would argue that anyone who wants, feels they "need" a weapon designed for one purpose--to kill people--is clearly "unbalanced," in many, profound ways. HIPA rules do not prevent appropriate reporting. That is simply not true. In fact, mental health professionals have an ethical and legal requirement, called "duty to warn."

Thanks for "America is broken" and your insight into all you wrote about, especially your clear portrayal of guns and gun deaths in America. One bright note on the O&G on the Western Slope and our North Fork Valley is this. https://wildearthguardians.org/press-releases/federal-judge-stops-35000-acre-fracking-plan-in-western-colorado/
