The Land Desk’s mission is to report on and illuminate the critical issues and news related to the Western U.S.’s land, water, and communities. We strive for honesty, accuracy, fairness, and to provide deep context to help readers act and search for solutions to the region’s most pressing problems.
This work isn’t easy, nor is it free to produce. We rely on our paid subscriptions, augmented by the generous donations of a small number of Founding and Sustaining Members. And now we’ve added a new revenue stream — tax deductible donations — to help us keep cranking out and growing our coverage, and to give readers even more of the type of news and commentary they value.
As of July 2026, The Land Desk Media is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
We’ve set up a few avenues for making a tax deductible contribution online (see links below). Those donations will go into the Land Desk/Lost Souls Press general fund, which pays me (Jonathan) to do this work, supports reporting/photography trips, helps cover software subscriptions and internet bills, replaces old equipment, and pays freelancers.
If you’d like to make a contribution that is earmarked for a specific purpose, donate in-kind goods or services, or would prefer to make an analog donation (i.e. non-online), please email me, Jonathan Thompson, at jonathanthompson70@gmail.com and we’ll work something out.
Thank you!
P.S. Keep your receipts when you make a donation! For all donations over $250, we will send you a letter of acknowledgment of your contribution for the folks at the IRS, so be sure to include your name and email.
