Apr 5Liked by Jonathan P. Thompson

Today is definitely a day of diminishing albedo. We drove home to Paonia from Dewey Bridge today and the wind was insane. From coming out of the canyon to I70 and on to Delta was particularly bad because of the WSW wind direction. The blowing dust was commensurate with the wind. The view of the snow covered San Juans was obscured by the blowing dust. I can just imagine the dust covered snow from today's high winds. Driving from Delta to the North Fork Valley was a breeze (pun intended) because of the following winds.

I hate this wicked wind. But just yesterday (April 5), the Durango Weather Guy wrote on his blog, "Spring=Wind. Wind season is here, I know it is not everyone's favorite but it is seasonal in SW Colorado for the next few months." In other words, he was normalizing it. It seems indeed that April is typically very windy, which harms snowpack by accelerating melt and blowing dust. Have you tracked seasonal wind to see if it's gotten worse over the last couple of decades?

I remember reading the Navaho elder's remarks above and the article. That should say it all if we were listening.

It is so hard to see and realize the dead set belief regarding cattle, methane, hay fields & other land used for feeding livestock on top of the damage that too much red meat does to humans. Just refuse to believe what has been done to our public lands, forests, monuments, and parks, plus chaining of Juniper, sage - other native plants & brush.

Most of these folks also believe the BLM's narrative of "Wild Horses did it". (sorry had to add that).

Its scary looking at the damage & pollution of mining, drilling, fracking - so little actual good clean water that hasnt been polluted by plastics or run off.

BUT "no such thing as climate change". Certainly humans cant be guilty of that!
