Re what's behind the tariff chaos, everyone should be giving more credence to a dark hypothesis that's been going around. He doesn't actually believe they will benefit the US economy or the global economy. All he cares about is aggrandizing his own dictatorship and wealth, using this weapon that he can turn off and on at will. In Senator Murphy's words, to "force every major company and industry in America to pledge loyalty to Trump in return for tariff relief." And also many nations, obviously. The Art of the Deal is everything.

I give a huge amount of credence to that theory

I'm so tired of this administration and its managerie of misfits, third-raters, head cases, buffoons and dregs! Would that we could put them all on a cruise ship sailing endlessly where they could all enjoy each other's company. And, oh yes, no life boats, rafts, life vests or preservers

Massive Freedom City in Vernal, Utah? Yea, that makes sense. 😆

I remember the mantra about globalization and the fact that "little hands", i.e. child labor was making our consumables. Yes, and jobs were lost and pollution too, but I recall a human rights bent to the movement. I've leaned away from free trade, not in a Trumpian way but in a way to foster American industry. For example, if Germany charges 12.5% tariffs on our cars we should charge the same on theirs.

Peter Navarro, let's break the world financial order overnight, is stupidity. The big question, besides cars, what can we realistically produce here? I had a long talk with a friend building a high-end outdoor furniture factory in industrial Pennsylvania near Allentown. It's sort of like the now-defunct Chaco factory in Paonia. Over 100 jobs. That was a high-end sandal. We can do high-end. I'm convinced. Mark Pagan would repair your sandal if it broke. That was pre-Patagonia.

Can we make Christmas tree ornaments? Or an $18 Gap t-shirt? Or even the cloth that makes the shirt? Not sure.

There's a sign in Trenton, NJ, from 1910, "Trenton makes, the World takes." Celebrating it's industrial (now gone) roots. We lost all that and that's left a wound. We can't ignore that.

I do know of one business, I think near King of Prussia, PA - its Big Barker Dog beds. Its a really good product - all made in US. My dog has one!

I think they started small, but it appears to be very successful.

It is possible or was when this one started - dont know about new ones going forward!

Here is a really informative post regarding the devastation the felon in DC wants to pour forth on our forests and public lands. The Trump 2.0 post is really good. (well, its bad, but interesting).
