I am so freaking sick of having the same battles again and again and again. I've been doing this since I've been in high school in the 1980s. One step forward two steps back two steps forward one step back… It just never ends. We think we get somewhere for a moment and then we have to fight the same goddamn battle again and again. I know we can't give up but I'm frankly exhausted by this bullshit.

I'm so sick of it that I think we need to do something quite extreme at this point. Meet the extremists with an extreme response. In my mind, we might want to weaponize the Wilderness act. The national monument was a compromise. But I'm feeling done with compromise on a lot of these issues. I know this will never actually happen but I'm at the point with this where I feel like we should make 95% of Bears Wars and Grand Staircase official wilderness under the 1964 act. That is much harder if not impossible to reverse. Of course getting there would be quite a struggle in Congress. Perhaps even impossible. But I think we should try. You can't compromise with these people. We have to go full on so this doesn't happen again.

In the Bears Ears (particularly on Cedar Mesa and adjacent areas), there are so many (1,000s) of sites (objects of interest) that it would be impossible to create tiny set aside areas around each one. The only way is to protect them is to protect the landscape as a whole.
