In the Bears Ears (particularly on Cedar Mesa and adjacent areas), there are so many (1,000s) of sites (objects of interest) that it would be impossible to create tiny set aside areas around each one. The only way is to protect them is to protect the landscape as a whole.

Jonathon, I'm so grateful for your writing in moments like these. The attacks have been countless, though this one hits different. Perhaps because the looming threats to the landscape (and the AA) are more real, in the near-term, than many of the other assaults we currently bear.

Thanks Jonathan. I look forward to seeing the maps. But it is probably a good idea to keep in mind that that the core of monuments dispute centers on state v federal supremacy. Utah, hostile from birth to all federal authority, seeks legal dominance over all public lands in the state, in Brigham Young’s time, and today. Outside of the Monuments battle, the BLM is quietly transferring executive control to all generic public lands via various partnership agreements with state established institutions. All the talk about economics is window dressing and camouflage.

Jim Pattiz also had a post about this.

I guess I'm not surprised that this demented toddler-in-chief did this - again - but scared that the supreme court in their infinite partisanship will take it farther.
