Thank you for clarifying what the public lands rule is and isn't. And, that poem by Will Gregorian is fantastic! That guy deserves some recognition.

And yet, in today’s Sentinel: https://www.gjsentinel.com/news/western_colorado/colorado-blm-director-new-plans-redirected-staff-will-help-with-energy-focus/article_035421f7-2069-466b-a00c-02f8403f11c7.html

Coincidentally I was up beyond Collbran last week, (Plateau Valley), and can say it first hand, a ton of industrial action underway since last summer. 479 or so new oil/gas lease proposals. Whatever that means.

Back to the "rape, ruin, and run" that Andrus also mentioned in the 1977 speech. The multiple-use mandate is still ridiculously out of balance. We only have 38 million acres out of 245 that are designated conservation lands (and even those still have grandfathered in mining and grazing). I was hoping the Public Lands Rule would help shift the balance by, say, another 10% over the next decade, but that is looking hopeless at this point.

Fifteen years before FLPMA was passed, back in 1961, congressman Clement Miller delivered a speech on the floor that included these words: "Today BLM's responsibilities as a permanent land manager are finally receiving realistic recognition. The Bureau has been a sort of stepchild among the Government's great land management agencies for too long. I am looking forward to a Cinderella transformation with high expectations."

We have come a long way since 1961, but still holding out hope for a cinderella transformation.

Thanks for the comic relief with the reviews of the powerplant. When my family toured the West, about 1970, Dad took us to tour some industrial sites. I'm not sure exactly why. Maybe so I would understand the whole world couldn't be made to look like Vermont? (Though we lived in NJ near plenty of industry.) Perhaps to avoid hiking around the cactus and rattlers? I remember the Brigham Pit for sure.

Maybe I should start leaving glowing reviews after I go hug a wind turbine or admire the synchronized tracking of 50 rows of solar trackers.
