Note: To all of you who have offered kind words, support, prayers, and offers of help, thank you so much. It really does help to just read these things. And thank you also to all of you Land Desk readers! You’re the best. We’ll get back to our regular Western U.S. programming next week. I promise.
My God. Oh Jonathan. What an incredible experience. So glad to know you all survived, but what a terrible tragedy — thank you for sharing your experience and reminding us that we're all connected, especially in a world so ravaged by climate change. Your photographs are beautiful and devastating. I remember being a little kid and going through Hurricane Betsy in South Florida — thinking how exciting it all was, until the winds rose to the sound of a train whistle wailing through the Air Force base we lived on, and our back porch blew away, and the base was flooded and stinking for weeks with dead sea creatures that had been washed ashore. I feel the same way; it's not "fun" or "exciting" anymore. And now it's not natural, either.
What a tragedy. Stu and I were just there… I can’t believe it. Will try to put our heads together and get in touch with you. Are you safe for now? How is W? Thinking about you all the time ❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹
I just caught up on our last two posts and am so incredibly sorry and concerned. Are you going to stay in Greece or perhaps return to the Western US? I don't know if you've considered setting up a GoFundMe account to help with replacing your lost things, but I encourage you to and share the link with your subscribers.
The aerial videos I saw from the thessaly region are just unbelievable. Hundreds of homes with water up to the roofline. Thank you for sharing your local perspective on the situation!
Your graphic descriptions of the chaotic flood scenes provides inconvertible evidence of abnormal weather travesty--emphasis on incontrovertible correlation of such events with climate change is essential to curb their human causes. Thanks for all you do and best wishes.
What devastation - I've always appreciated that your pictures can be enlarged - it makes the damage even more clear & "in your face" - which it needs to be.
As Diane said - its not fun or exciting AND sure is NOT "natural".
If the climate deniers truly looked at your pictures, the ones from Florida, and/or the ones from Hawaii, it would make it very clear how unnatural this all is.
Hang in there, it sounds like your friends & neighbors are coming together to clean up & re-build.
We all need to see that climate change is not only here in the US!
OMG. I am so sorry! Thank you for being our witness to this horrible flooding, and for doing your best to stay safe and sane amidst the destruction of all you had and know there. Please let us know how we can help!

My heart goes out to the people in Greece right now.
Wow. Hang in there.
Thank you for the thoughtful reporting.

Do you have Venmo?
We've been thinking about you, Wendy, and Lydia. Thanks for the update--what a disaster. Let me know if there is anything I can do.
